Why You Should Be Using Cuticle Oil on Your Pedicure Too
A couple weeks ago on Instagram, I asked a simple question in my stories:
“Are you oiling your pedicures? Be honest.”
And surprisingly… a lot of people voted saying they didn’t even know they were supposed to.
Honestly, I get it. Most people think about cuticle oil for their fingernails, especially if they get BIAB nails, gel manicures or extensions regularly. But for some reason, people forget that their toenails need hydration and maintenance too.
In fact, if you’re newer to structured gel/BIAB nails, you can also read my blog post BIAB Nails Explained: Why This Nail Trend Is Booming in Mallorca, where I talk more about nail health, structure, and why healthier-looking nails start with proper maintenance.
During summer in Palma de Mallorca — when everyone is living in sandals, walking barefoot at the beach, sitting by the pool, and showing off their toes 24/7 — this matters even more.
A beautiful pedicure is not just about the polish itself. Healthy-looking skin, hydrated cuticles, and maintained nails are what really make a pedicure look expensive and fresh.
Your Toenails Are Made of Keratin Too
Just like your fingernails, your toenails are made of keratin.
When nails become overly dry, they can start looking brittle, rough, dehydrated, and dull. The skin surrounding the nails can also become cracked or flaky, which immediately makes even a fresh pedicure look older much faster.
This is where cuticle oil comes in.
Applying cuticle oil regularly helps maintain hydration around the nail area and supports healthier-looking nails overall. If you’re someone who naturally has weaker nails, dryness, or skin that becomes rough quickly during summer, adding oil into your routine can make a huge difference visually.
And honestly? During open-toe season, hydrated toes simply look prettier.
Mallorca Summer Weather Can Be Harsh on Pedicures
Living in Mallorca is amazing… but the climate is not always kind to your skin and nails.
Between:
salt water
chlorine
sun exposure
heat
sandals
walking barefoot
air conditioning
…your feet go through a lot during summer.
That combination can dry out both the skin and the nail plate very quickly. This is one of the biggest reasons I recommend using cuticle oil on pedicures just as consistently as you would on your hands.
Even applying it once daily before bed can help maintain a fresher-looking pedicure for longer.
A Fresh Pedicure Isn’t Just About Colour
One thing I always notice is that people focus heavily on the polish colour itself, but not enough on the condition of the surrounding skin.
You can have the most beautiful red gel pedicure in the world, but if the cuticles are dry and the skin around the toes looks dehydrated, the entire look changes.
Hydrated skin gives that soft, glossy, luxury appearance that makes everything look more polished overall.
Sometimes the smallest maintenance habits make the biggest visual difference.

Simple Ways To Maintain Your Pedicure Longer
Here are a few easy things you can do to help your pedicure stay looking fresh between appointments:
Apply cuticle oil daily
Use foot cream before bed
Avoid picking or peeling gel polish
Rinse feet after swimming in chlorine or salt water
Wear SPF on the feet during summer
Avoid overly hot baths
Keep nails hydrated after beach days
Wear sandals that don’t excessively rub the toes
Stay consistent with maintenance appointments
Little habits really add up over time.
Why I Only Offer Russian Dry Pedicures
This is probably also a good time to mention that I personally only offer Russian dry pedicures.
I’m not really a traditional spa-pedicure girl, and I intentionally keep my pedicure service focused more on clean nail work, detail, and polish application rather than heavy exfoliation or soaking treatments.
A lot of this comes from my background working in TV, fashion, and production, where precision, cleanliness, and efficiency matter a lot.
When I’m not on production sets, I see my private clients inside the beautiful vegan salon Xavier Matamoros Hair Salon, where I focus mainly on luxury nail services for hands and natural-looking gel work.
As a little side note: sometimes less is more when it comes to feet.
Be cautious of salons that aggressively remove large amounts of skin from the heels using harsh “cheese grater” style foot files. Over-removing skin can sometimes lead to increased sensitivity and cause the skin to react by building up even thicker over time.
Gentle maintenance and consistency usually work much better long term.
Healthy Nails Are About Consistency
At the end of the day, maintaining your pedicure doesn’t need to be complicated.
A small daily habit like applying cuticle oil can completely change how your toes look and feel — especially during Mallorca’s long sandal season.
Healthy-looking nails, hydrated skin, and regular maintenance always look more luxurious than simply relying on polish alone.
And if you’re looking for luxury gel nails or Russian dry pedicures in Palma de Mallorca, you can explore my services and book online anytime.
