From the Canadian Mountains to Mallorca: Why I Chose to Build My Luxury Nail Business Here

The Leap from Canada to Spain

Leaving behind my thriving nail business in Canada wasn’t an easy decision. At first, I had my sights set on Barcelona—a vibrant city with an artistic pulse, a place where trends flourish, and opportunities abound. It made sense for a high-end Nail Artist like me to thrive in a big city, right? But something felt off.

I had previously lived in Madrid, so I understood the energy of city life in Spain. But deep down, I knew I wasn’t a city girl. I need tranquility, open spaces, mountains to hike, and a connection to nature. The fast-paced environment of Barcelona didn’t align with my lifestyle or how I wanted to run my business. Friends who knew me well suggested I explore Mallorca, believing it would be a better fit. And they were right.

Identifying a Gap in Mallorca’s Nail Industry

When I returned to Canada, I did my research. I wasn’t going to relocate just for the scenery—I needed to ensure Mallorca had a market for the kind of luxury vegan nail services I specialize in; BIAB gel nails being my most popular and sought after service.

I quickly saw a gap in the market:

A lack of non-toxic, high-end nail services – Most salons are still using acrylics and chemical-heavy products, with little focus on nail health. My approach—using vegan, high-quality gel products—was missing here.

Limited nail education for clients – Many salons don’t educate their clients about proper nail care, aftercare, or product choices. I believe in empowering clients with knowledge so they can maintain strong, healthy nails.

Outdated booking systems – Many beauty businesses in Mallorca still don’t have professional websites or online booking systems that require a credit card to reserve appointments. A seamless, professional experience is essential to attract high-end clientele.

I saw a clear opportunity to bring a more elevated nail experience to Mallorca—one that prioritizes quality, expertise, and client care.

Balancing Luxury Nail Services & Production Work

Another factor in my decision was Mallorca’s growing film, fashion, and TV production industry. While Madrid and Barcelona have more opportunities, Mallorca offers a unique niche. Many productions come here for destination shoots, high-end fashion campaigns, and commercial work.

As a Session Manicurist, I wanted to establish myself within this industry while still running my salon services. The ability to balance both passions was another confirmation that Mallorca was the right choice.

Rebuilding & Setting New Standards

Now that I’m here, my clients continue to validate that my instincts were right. They tell me time and time again that there was a need for high-end nail services that focus on:

💎 Premium vegan products
📚 Educating clients on nail health
🖥️ Professionalism—online booking, clear policies, and an elevated experience

Beyond serving my own clients, I also hope that other beauty entrepreneurs in Mallorca are watching and learning. I want to set an example of how to run a serious, high-end beauty business—one that isn’t just about aesthetics but also about education, professionalism, and quality service.

Final Thoughts

Relocating my business was one of the biggest (and best) risks I’ve taken. It confirmed that following my instincts—not just for lifestyle but also for seeing market gaps and filling them—was the right move.

Mallorca isn’t just my home now; it’s the perfect place to redefine what a luxury nail experience should be.
